Young girl attacked with acid by in-laws in Northeast Delhi, two held

The woman was being harassed by her husband and in-laws for dowry

The Delhi Police has arrested a woman who allegedly poured acid on her daughter-in-law for not fulfilling her dowry demands. 

The accused was identified as Anjali from New Usmanpur. The woman had absconded along with her family members after the incident at their house on September 20. after pouring acid on her daughter-in-law. 

The police stated that the 22-year-old victim was admitted to JPC Hospital with 25 per cent acid burns and was later taken to LNJP Hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment.

According to the police, Anjali had filed an eviction suit in Karkardooma court against her daughter-in-law, who has been married to her son for the past two years and has a six-month-old daughter. On September 20, both the parties attended the court for a hearing in the matter, Anjali, in a fit of rage poured acid on the victim. 

The victim woman told the police that she and her child were “being harassed and tortured” by her in-laws and husband.

The police have registered a case against the accused under section 326 (A) pertaining to acid attack of the Indian Penal Code.
