West Bengal Police arrests three for arson at TMC event in Nandigram

The police have named several BJP leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, have been named in the FIR

The West Bengal Police arrests three persons for arson in connection with the violence at Trinamool Congress event in Nandigram. 

The podium of the programme organised to mark Martyr’s Day at Nandigram was vandalised and set on fire allegedly by BJP workers. 

The police have named several BJP leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, have been named in the FIR.

The accused have been identified as Kartik Barik, Gauranga Mondal and Sanjeev Mondal. 

Police also raided BJP leader Meghnath Paul’s residence in Nandigram

The police have lodged FIR under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 425 (mischief), 427 (mischief causing damage), 435 (mischief by fire), 436 (arson) 504 (intent to breach peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and under the Arms Act.

The BJP protested against the arrests, claiming that the charges against party leaders were false.
