UP Police booked relatives of minor rape victim who allegedly forced her to terminate pregnancy

The girl informed the CWC after which the Fatehpur police booked her grandmother and aunt for forcing her to abort the child

The UP police booked family members of a minor rape victim who forced her to terminate her pregnancy without obtaining legal permission. 

The rape victim is 16-years-old and was pregnant for four months. 

As per the case details, the girl was abducted by a youth belonging to another community. The family had filed a complaint against him and the youth was arrested. 

The police had produced the girl before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Fatehpur. 

The CWC handed the girl’s custody to her parents after the latter gave in writing that they would bring the girl before the committee on every date and would not cause any harm to her. Later, the girl was found to be pregnant and it was reported to the CWC. 

The victim told the CWC recently that her grandmother and aunt got her abortion done without her permission. 

The girl was immediately sent for a check-up where doctors confirmed termination of the pregnancy. 

The police investigation showed that the two accused took the girl Kanpur for abortion. The added that the doctors and staff who carried out the abortion will also face legal action. 

The police have registered an FIR under lodged under IPC section 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent).
