UP Police book eight for disrespecting national flag on R Day
The accused hoisted the national flag in their office, played music on a high volume and draped a three-wheeler with the Tricolour and were seen sitting on the national flag and touching it with their legs
The UP Police have booked eight people for allegedly disrespecting the national flag at a function at Tewda village in Muzaffarnagar on Republic Day.
A video went reportedly viral on social media regarding these incident which led to police action.
The accused have been identified as Shahnazar, Irshad, Shoban, Sadiq, Intasar, Isha and Asif (all from Kamehra village), and Gulshanawar from Kheda Firozabad village.
On the basis of an inquiry report submitted by sub-inspector Hari Raj Singh, an FIR was lodged against nine persons.
The police said the accused, who work in the electricity department hoisted the national flag on their office. He allegedly played music on a high volume and draped a three-wheeler with the Tricolour. In the video, the accused are seen sitting on the national flag and touching it with their legs.
The police have registered an FIR under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 270 (malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life). Police also invoked the Epidemic Disease Act, Disaster Management Act and Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
