UP Police arrests two men from Sultanpur who allegedly raped an engineering student while she was on her way home

The police said the accused were identified as Saroj Pandey (26) and Ranjit Upadhyay (28) who owns a jewellery shop in the district and does odd jobs respectively

The UP Police arrested two men who allegedly raped a 20-year-old engineering student when she was on her way back home in Sultanpur district. 

The police said the accused were identified as Saroj Pandey (26) and Ranjit Upadhyay (28) – both residents of the district. While Pandey owns a jewellery shop in the district, Upadhyay does odd jobs.

The police stated that one of the accused tried to flee when he was taken to the crime spot and was shot in the leg. 

As per the case details, the engineering student was raped after the two gave her a lift in their SUV on October 7. They drove the car to a secluded spot and raped her. The medical examination of the woman had confirmed rape.

The girl had mentioned in her complaint that the accused had taken the car to a secluded place where she was raped and after committing the crime, the duo left her few meters from the police station and fled. 

During the investigation, the police teams took the accused Upadhyay to the spot where the crime was committed to recover his clothes. He shot at the police team with a weapon he had hidden in the clothes. He was overpowered and arrested and taken to a health centre for treatment.
