The UP Police arrested a man in an exchange of fire who is accused of raping and murdering a three-year-old girl in Ballia district.
The police said that the child had gone missing on May 8 and her body was found the next day at a farm near her residence. The accused works at a brick kiln factory in the neighbouring area.
The police had initially registered a case of kidnapping and now the police have added charges of rape and murder in the case. The police had detained two suspects who were released after questioning.
The arrested accused told police in interrogation that he only wanted to rape the girl and no intention to kill but later killed her by strangulation. He lured the girl by offering her biscuits and took her to an empty hut. He then dumped the body near her house.
When the police teams went to arrest him, the accused who had a country-made pistol fired at police who fired back retaliation to arrest him. He suffered a gunshot injury in his leg.
