UP GRP suspends their head constable who allegedly molested a teen girl at Sharanpur railway station
The 32-year-old head constable saw the mother and daughter sleeping near the ticket counter and asked them to let him check their luggage; he tried to molest her daughter in the name of checking
The Uttar Pradesh Group Railway Protection (GRP) arrested a police head constable of GRP at Saharanpur railway station for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl.
The police stated that a mother and her teenage daughter were waiting for a train to return home after visiting Saharanpur. The head constable saw the mother and daughter sleeping near the ticket counter and asked them to let him check their luggage.
The mother complained that he tried to molest her daughter in the name of checking. When she raised an alarm, the constable moved away after making indecent gestures at them, officials said.
The mother further alleged that when she lodged a complaint with the GRP, the officer on duty refused to register a case, and it was only when she reached out to senior officers that an FIR was registered.
SP GRP has suspended the constable with immediate effect.
The constable has been booked under IPC sections 354 (criminal force to any woman, intending to outrage her modesty) and section 3/7 (punishment for the sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
