The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested a youth for his alleged links with two terror groups, Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Lucknow.
The accused was identified as Azharuddin, a resident of Saharanpur district who used to locally sell helmets.
Azaharuddin was detained and brought to the ATS office in Lucknow where he was interrogated in detail. Later, the ATS arrested him.
ADG ATS, Naveen Arora stated that Azharuddin was a part of a terror module that was busted in October for allegedly being associated with AQIS and JMB.
The police said Azharuddin is accused of distributing jihadi literature and videos among the public that were provided by AQIS members.
The ATS had arrested 10 persons including one Mudassir, who was from Uttarakhand. The 10 accused persons were booked on various charges including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
During questioning, Mudassir told the police about Azharuddin’s association with the group. The officials added that came to light that the accused Azaharuddin was in touch with AQIS members including its India head Abdullah Talha, alias Mufti Hussain.
