Two including a pastor held in UP for allegedly trying to convert people to Christianity

The duo have been booked under Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act after complaints from VHP and Bajrang Dal

The UP Police held two persons in two cases, including a Church pastor in Rampur district for allegedly trying to make people convert to Christianity.

The first case was lodged in Shahabad sub-division against pastor, Paulus Masih (35) for allegedly luring some people belonging to the Dalit community to adopt Christianity.

Rajeev Yadav, who claimed to be a Bajrang Dal office-bearer. The FIR was registered under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act.

The videos of the incident were doing rounds on social media promoting Hindu groups to alert police.

According to the police, a large group of people assembled at the residence of Vikram Singh, also a Dalit, at Sona village. The police claimed that when they reached the spot, they found that he was trying to convince people to change their religion to Christianity.

The police added that around 20-30 persons of Jatav community had gathered at Vikram Singh’s house when the pastor was present there.

Similarly, in another case, a 26 year-old youth was arrested for allegedly trying to convince people belonging to the Dalit community to adopt Christianity by luring them with the promise of a “good life”.

The complaint against him was lodged by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) district president Sanjeev Gupta.

The accused was identified as Shivdesh, a Dalit, is a resident of Bakar Ali village in Milak sub-division. 

The police have booked under the anti-conversion law.
