Two Iraqi nationals duped, looted in Gurugram by four posing as police

Seeing spurt in incidents of foreign nationals in Gurugram for medical treatment getting targeted by such gangs, the Gurugram Police have issued directions to establishments and institutions regarding such gangs

New Delhi, February 6

The Gurugram Police have booked yet another case of robbery with two foreign nationals who were allegedly duped of 5,000 dollars by four unidentified men posing as police officers.

The police stated that the incident took place on February 4 when the victims, two Iraqi nationals, walked to their hotel at Sector 38.

According to the police,  one of the victims, Sabah Abdul Hasan, said he arrived in the city from Iraq on January 25 for medical treatment of his brother-in-law and a friend. He had taken accommodation at a guesthouse at Sector 38. 

The victim alongwith his brother-in-law, family members visited Faridabad hospital and after a check-up they were walking on the service road from Sector 32 towards their hotel when the accused arrived in a car. 

The accused claimed to be police officers and asked for visa and passport documents for checking. On the pretext of checking documents, the occupants in the car stole $5000 and also fled with their passports. 

The police are checking CCTVs in the area to identify the accused. 

The police have registered a case under sections 379 (theft) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

Seeing spurt in incidents of foreign nationals getting targeted by such gangs, the Gurugram Police have issued directions included briefing patients coming from foreign countries that the police do not conduct random checks for passport and visa verification on the roads. 

The directions were also given for the range of CCTVs installed near the entrance of hospitals to be increased. An interpreter who can translate must accompany patients and inform foreign nationals about the directions.
