The Prisons department has suspended eight jail officials, including Tamil Nadu Special Police personnel in connection with the killing of gangster Tillu Tajpuriya.

Two CCTV footage from the open area of the prison surfaced on Internet where the assailants are seen jumping from the first floor and entering Tajpuriya's cell. The entire incident was captured in the footage, where Tajpuriya can be seen brutally stabbed multiple times while the jail staff watched.

Director General (Tihar) Sanjay Beniwal was summoned to Raj Niwas, after footage of the incident surfaced.

DG Prisons Sanjay Beniwal conducted an internal inquiry and submitted a report to LG VK Saxena.

The DG then ordered for suspension two assistant superintendents and four warders and initiated departmental proceedings against two head warders.

Tajpuriya, who was accused in the 2021 Rohini court shootout case, was allegedly killed by four rival gangsters inside Tihar jail on May 2.

The video purportedly shows Tajpuriya’s body being removed from the ward by jail officials and Tamil Nadu Special Police force officials with the help of a blanket and being taken to the common area towards the exit.

It then shows the accused entering the common area and thrashing and stabbing Tajpuriya even as the officials stand around, not stepping in to separate the inmates.

The video has shown serious lapse from the prison department as the jail staff allegedly watched without even attempting to stop the assailants.

The assailants used a sua to stab Tajpuriya over 90 times and kept stabbing even after he doed.

The L-G is also going to conduct a detailed meeting on the security arrangements at Tihar Jail after the videos surfaced.
