The Delhi Prisons department has transferred 80 officials, including head wardens and wardens, of Tihar jail were transferred. This is the second round of transfers of the Tihar jail officials after the brutal killing of gangster Tillu Tapuriya in Tihar jail.
Two weeks ago, 100 officials from the jail were transferred with immediate effect after the killing of Tajpuriya. Seven Tamil Nadu police officials and six Delhi Prisons personnel were also suspended after the incident.
Director General of Prisons, Sanjay Beniwal passed transferring 80 officials serving at various jails that includes the Tihar, Rohini and Mandoli prison complexes.
The order was passed transferring five deputy superintendents, nine assistant superintendents and eight head wardens along with 50 wardens were transferred with immediate effect.
The prisons department had taken an action after the CCTV footage of the incidents had emerged showing assailants brutally stabbing Tajpuriya over 90 times first in his high security cell and later in the open area leading to his death. The policemen were allegedly seen watching the incident without intervention to stop it.
Tajpuriya was the alleged mastermind of the December 2021 murder of Jitender Mann alias Gogi inside Rohini court. All the four accused — Deepak alias Titar, Yogesh alias Tunda, Rajesh and Riyaz Khan — are associated with the Gogi gang and claimed Tillu’s murder was revenge for Gogi’s death.
