Wife and actress Nisha Rawal had filed a complaint with Goregaon police station following a brawl with him that reportedly injured her

New Delhi, June 1

The Mumbai Police arrested popular television actor Karan Mehra who is known for his role in a popular daily soap as a dotting husband, for allegedly beating up his actress wife Nisha Rawal.

Nisha Rawal filed a complaint with Goregaon police station late on May 31 after a brawl where she alleged that Mehra thrashed her. 

The Goregaon Police have filed a case against him under Indian Penal Code sections 336 (endangering human life or the personal safety others), 337 (causing hurt by an act which endangers human life), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

He was asked to record a statement, officials said. 

While Karan Mehra is known for his role in television series "Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai" and has a huge fan following kn spcial media, Nisha Rawal is also a famous TV actor and a model. She has appeared in multiple TV commercials and also acted in a few Bollywood movies.

The couple was seen together on television in a dance reality show - "Nach Baliye".

They started their careers as models. They dated for about six years before their marriage. 

The incident comes two days after Karan Mehra had rubbished marital discord with Nisha, on social media. He had stated that the reports of marital discord were rumours and untrue. 

The police informed that Mehra was granted bail after a few hours.
