The girl was returning home in an auto rickshaw where a male was sitting who first tried to snatch her phone and after hitting her on her head took the auto to a secluded place where she was sexually assaulted

New Delhi, October 18

The Lucknow Police arrested an auto rickshaw driver who sexually assaulted a 19-year-old girl who was returning home. 

The auto rickshaw driver also had an aide with him who fled from the spot during the arrest. 

A Sub Inspector posted at the outpost has been suspended for negligence on duty. The authorities also issued notices to station house officers of three police stations for not reporting the incident to a senior police officer.

The police stated that the incident took place on October 15 evening when she was returning home after taking tuition classes. She hired an autorickshaw where a male sitting in the vehicle. After a while, the driver started driving on a different route. When she objected, the two men overpowered her, snatched her cellphone and hit her on the head. 

The officials added that the accused stopped the auto rickshaw in a secluded place and dragged the victim to a nearby place, where they sexually assaulted her. The accused then dropped her a few meters away and threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident.

The police have filed an FIR of charges of gangrape, criminal intimidation and others. 

During the preliminary inquiry, police found that the girl had made a complaint on the 1090 helpline. The girl’s mother told the police that she would file a complaint separately in the matter as the latter is not well presently.

As per the case details, the duo, after sexually assaulting her had left her at a police outpost. The officials said that the girl has been sent for a medical examination and a report is awaited. The samples were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further examination.

The police are making efforts to seize the vehicle where the accused had committed the crime and hunt down the second accused.
