Tamil Nadu Police arrests owner of a shelter home for rape, torture, abuse of inmates

The man was running a shelter home in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu from last 17 years

The Tamil Nadu Police have arrested eight persons, including the owner of a destitute home in Villupuram district for rape and torture of inmates.

The case came to the fore after a 70-year-old inmate disappeared from the shelter home. While investigating the case, the police learnt through other inmates that they were getting beaten up, torture by the staff. One inmate complained of rape against the owner of the shelter home. 

The owner of the shelter home has been charged with illegal confinement, lack of space, using inmates as employees and running the shelter without a proper licence for many years.

The owner of the shelter home however denied the allegations of rape and torture whereas confessed to irregularities in running the shelter home. The shelter home was running form last 17 years and had applied for licensing to the police however his work was pending allegedly with the police. 

The shelter home was not under the government and also didn't have any proper license to run the same.
