TN Missionary School Student Suicide- Police arrest the warden of the missionary school

The student had consumed poison and in her dying declaration had mentioned about cruelty in the school. The BJP however claimed that the girl was being forced to convert leading to her suicide

New Delhi, January 22

The Tamil Nadu Police have arrested the warden of a missionary school hostel in connection with the alleged suicide of a minor student. There are allegations that the girl was being forced to convert by the missionary school.

As per the case details, the girl student consumed poison on January 9. The girl’s parents informed police on on January 15. The police registered a case under IPC section 305 (abetment of suicide of child) and sections 75 (punishment for cruelty to child) and 82 (1) (indulging in corporal punishment with the aim of disciplining a child) of the Juvenile Justice Act. 

The officials added that the girl had also giving a dying declaration in front of the Thanjavur judicial magistrate. 

As per the FIR, the student was staying at the hostel and that the warden allegedly forced her to do domestic chores on January 9. She allegedly attempted to take her life as she could not bear the cruelty.

The BJP members in the district claimed the girl died by suicide as she was forced to convert to Christianity. The BJP also staged protest outside the police station. 

The Tamil Nadu police have however warned action against those spreading misinformation about the girl’s suicide case which has garnered criticism and opposition on alleged conversion threats. There are photos, videos, statements circulating on social media regarding the girl's suicide with allegation of forced conversion attempts.    

The police have meanwhile issued a warning stating that anyone circulating or revealing the identity, photo, video, address of the victimized juvenile or her dying declaration in the social media as it is an offence.
