Six-year-old girl raped by her neighbour in Delhi's Mayur Vihar

The accused has been arrested and booked under Section 376AB of the IPC, POCSO Act and SC/ST Act

New Delhi, August 12

A six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her neighbour in Mayur Vihar area of East Delhi leaving many residents in the colony shocked. 

DCP (East) Priyanka Kashyap stated that the accused, a 34-year-old man  was arrested within a few hours and booked under the POCSO Act and SC/ST Act. 

The police said the victim was referred to AIIMS where her condition was reported stable. 

The police have also booked the accused under Section 376 AB (punishment for rape of a woman under 12 years of age). 

The police said that they are investigating the case further and recorded statements of the girl's family. The accused will be thoroughly interrogated in the case, police added. 

It has been just a few weeks that the girl in Nangal area of Delhi was raped and her body was cremated in Nangal crematorium before her family could see her. 

The incident had led to national outrage and several politicians visiting the girl's family and assuring justice and compensation. The crematorium priest and others were arrested for the crime. The case is being probed by the Delhi Crime Branch now.
