Samajwadi Party MLA and supporters allegedly assault husband of BJP candidate in Amethi

A brawl broke out in the police station premises of Amethi district in Uttar Pradesh, as local Samajwadi Party MLA and his supporters allegedly assaulted the husband of the BJP candidate for the post of Nagar Palika chairperson 

The police said that the incident took place inside Gauriganj police station in Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh. 

The accused, Rakesh Pratap Singh, is a third-time MLA from Gauriganj Assembly seat in Amethi. The victim is Deepak Singh husband of BJP candidate Rashmi Singh. It was alleged that the accused took out pistols and threatened the BJP candidate's husband inside the police station.

The complainant, Deepak Singh claimed that Rakesh Pratap Singh and his brother Umesh Pratap pointed pistol at him. he stated that as soon as reached the police station, the duo were waiting outside and attacked him. 

Rakesh Pratap on the other hand claimed that he was compelled to take out his pistol as police failed to control and the latter assaulted his supporters and abused them. 

The Amethi Police have registered an FIR against 12 persons under IPC Sections 147 (rioting), 352 (punishment for assault or criminal force), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 506 (criminal intimidation), among others.

The police stated that Deepak is a historysheeter and has several cases against him in the past. The police have received no complaint from Rakesh Pratap and his side.
