A retired IPS officer allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow.
The 1975 batch IPS officer, Dinesh Sharma (73) was living with his family, his wife and son at Gomti Nagar. He retied at the rank of Director General of Police
The police said that the officer locked the door of his room from inside and shot himself with a licensed pistol. The incident took place at around 7am.
Upon hearing the gunshot, his family members broke open the door and found him. They informed the local police station, and a team rushed to his house.
Sharma left behind a suicide note, saying he couldn’t handle his anxiety disorder and depression. “To whomsoever it may concern, I am committing suicide as I cannot live with anxiety disorder and depression anymore. I am losing strength and health. None else is responsible for it,” police added.
His body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, after which it will be handed over to the family for cremation, officials added.
The UP IPS fraternity expressed shock and offered condolences at his residence.
DK Sharma was also general secretary of Retired senior police officers association in UP. Sharma served in UP Police for over 30 years at various posts and revered by his counterparts. his batchmates and junior officers expressed shock on the incident.
