Punjab Police files FIR in farmer Shubhkaran Singh's death

The Punjab police filed an FIR against unknown persons for the death of 22-year-old farmer Shubhkaran Singh who died of head injury during farmers' protest. 

Shubhkaran died of a wound at the back of  his neck at the Khanauri border on February 21.

The FIR was lodged on the complaint of his father Charanjeet Singh.

In his complaint, Charanjeet has mentioned that he along with his son and other villagers Kuldeep Singh and Gurvinder Singh, were in a trolley at Khanauri on February 21 when Haryana security forces began tear gas shelling. They went into nearby fields, but shelling continued towards that side as well. 

The farmer leaders were then instructed us to sit in the trolleys, and they started walking, Shubhkaran, who was a little ahead, was hit by a bullet at the back of his head. He fell and was taken to Khanauri hospital, where doctors declared him dead after about an hour.

Shubhkaran’s family and farmer union leaders had turned down Punjab government’s compensation of Rs 1 crore and a government job. The family had also refused his last rites till the guilty are punished. 

The family has now given permission for the post mortem after which his last rites would be performed.
