New Delhi, March 10

The Punjab Police in Khanna police arrested six aides of US-based extortionist Lovejeet Kang and recovered a huge cache of weapons from them.

The accused were planning to kidnap some “target persons” for ransom on the directions of Kang. 

The arrested persons were identified as Davinder Singh alias Bunty of Amritsar, Karanjot Singh alias Nona of Mohalla New Azad Nagar of Amritsar, Kohinoor Singh alias Titu of Dhandari Kalan of Sahnewal, Harpreet Singh alias Honey of Kokri Kalan of Moga, Balkaran Singh of Amritsar and Kamaljit Singh alias Kaim of Village Bheela Kanjli of Kapurthala.

The police have also booked the kingpin of the gang Lovejeet Kang was also booked by the police, who is yet to be arrested.

The police had been working on the intel since last 10 days to identify the members of this gang.

On February 26, police had arrested Davinder Singh alias Bunty and Karanjot Singh alias Nona and recovered 4 pistols and 4 magazines from their possession. During questioning the accused told police that they were planning to abduct some industrialists and NRIs for ransom.

Of 13 weapons recovered from the accused, police said that there 11 pistols of 32 bore and 2 country made pistols.

The police have registered an FIR under sections 384 (extortion), 385 (Putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extor­tion), 386 (Extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) of IPC, sections 25, 54 and 59 of Arms Act.

Khanna SP (investigation) Pragya Jain said that earlier on February 6, Kapurthala police had arrested eight members of this gang who had made a call to an NRI family and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh.
