The Punjab Police arrested an aide of US-based fugitive gangster Lovejeet Kang who allegedly runs an extortion racket.
The accused was identified as Manpreet Singh Mani of Miani Basti village of Fazilka.
The police seized three illegal weapons and three magazines were recovered from his possession.
Total of seven members of this extortion module have been arrested till now. A total of 16 illegal weapons, 16 magazines and 3 bullets have been recovered, police added.
According to the police, Manpreet Singh's name was revealed during questioning of Kamaljit Singh alias Kaim of Kapurthala, who is also a member of the module. Kamajit Singh told police that they procured weapons from Manpreet Singh on the directions of Kang.
The accused was earlier arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi police with five pistols. Earlier, he was also arrested by Rajasthan police and four pistols were recovered from his possession.
The police have registered a case under under sections 384 (extortion), 385 (Putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 386 (Extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) of IPC, sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
