Pregnant live-in partner dead after consuming pill, partner held for rape

The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested a man and his nephew in alleged rape of a woman and for causing her death due to negligence. The girl was pregnant and she was given a pill that lead to her death. 

The 24-year-old main accused, who hails from Lakhimpur Kheri, was allegedly in a live-in relationship with the 21-year-old woman, who belonged to another community, and they were living on rented premises for the last 10 months in Shahjahanpur.

According to the police, he accused rushed the woman to a government hospital after she complained of severe stomach pain. She was admitted to the hospital under a fake name. The accused said she was pregnant and her condition started deteriorating after he gave her medicine for abortion.

The police stated that the post-mortem report attributed the death to haemorrhage and infection due to rupture of the fallopian tube.

The accused then informed her family about the death. The family members soon arrived from Lakhimpur Kheri and held the man responsible for their daughter’s death. 

The police investigation showed that the accused came in contact with the woman in Lakhimpur Kheri. They exchanged phone numbers and kept in touch. Around 10 months ago, the woman got transferred to Shahjahanpur. He too shifted there soon and they started staying together. He claimed that three days ago, she informed him about her pregnancy and sought to buy medicines for abortion.

He purchased medicine from a shop and gave it to her. After consuming it, she started complaining of pain. The accused informed his nephew about the matter and together they took her to the government hospital where she died during treatment, police added. 

Her family told the police that they were aware she was staying in Shahjahanpur on rent, but did not know her address.

The police have lodged a FIR against the accused and his nephew under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections including 376 (rape), 304 (causing death by negligence), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc with intent to commit offence) and 419 (cheating by personation).
