Senior IPS officer, Laxmi Singh has taken over as police commissioner of Noida Police, a key post and a challenging assignment to lead a force guarding an emerging city of Noida. Laxmi Singh is the first woman IPS officer to be appointed as the Chief of any commissionarate in UP Police.
Known as Gautam Budh Nagar Commissionarate, this commssionarate has been one of the most buzzing commssionarates in UP Police after Lucknow. Noida Police has been dealing with criminal gangs, organized crime, traffic, illegal arms trafficking, crimes against women and more.
Laxmi Singh needs no introduction, she is a well-known officer who has been the backbone of UP Police and has both modernization, computerization and encounters to her credit. She has been a blend of the face of SMART Policing in UP fetching appreciation for the same from PM Narendra Modi and even receiving recognition for her crackdown on dreaded criminals.
Noida Police has been moving towards SMART Policing and arrival of Laxmi Singh at this juncture adds more value to the ongoing adoption of technology and modernization of the force. The motto of UP Police ‘Seva, Dakshta and Prakram’, Singh is meant to take the force forward towards next level of policing.
Not only she is the first woman IPS officer to be appointed as the Police Commissioner of any commissionarate in UP Police, she is the first woman CP of Noida Police.
As the CP of Noida, Laxmi Singh has taken the onus to make the policing better in Noida and at par with Delhi Police.
Noida CP, Laxmi Singh said, “My effort will be to further strengthen the policing system in NCR and a benchmark is created for other commissionerates by its exemplary model. The policing in Noida is often compared with the policing in Delhi and considering this, there is a need for us to appraise our standards. We will work to ensure security for all professionals. We will also ensure crackdown on organised crime as per goverment's zero tolerance policy for crime”.
Known to be an officer who believes in action and not just talks, her colleagues in UP Police regard her for her systematic work.
Talking about the same, she has had an eagle eyes approach on criminals and maintains a personal diary of anti-social elements and criminals, Singh is focused to eliminate gangs and gangsters.
She also has to her credit of eliminating criminals and dacoits during her previous stints in UP Police. She handled the infamous Vikas Dubey case. During her crackdown on the dacoits in Bundelkhand, Singh had developed an informer system among them, which was the most difficult task for any police officer.
She however got under the skin of the dacoits and developed informers through which she kept track of the dacoits and ultimately eliminated an entire network of dacoits disturbing law and order in the area and brought down the cases of armed loots to almost nil in Bundelkhand.
As a woman police officer, she has aimed at providing completet security to women in Noida and ensure every woman in Noida feels safe. Singh has encouraged Mahila Chaupal, a gathering of women citizens with police and said that the Mahila Chaupals would be held regularly with Noida Police to understand and provide security and aide to women.
Very few know that Laxmi Singh played an important role during the Lakhimpur Kheri violence in October 2021 before the state elections in February this year, a report said.
On 3 October last year, during protests against the central government’s now-withdrawn farm laws, a car carrying BJP leader Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish, mowed down four farmers and a journalist. In the ensuing violence, two BJP workers and Ajay Mishra’s driver were beaten to death by farmers.
Laxmi Singh took the initiative to pacify farmers, for which she was given the Chief Minister’s Excellence Service Police Medal.
She also received the silver baton from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Apart from this, she got a 9 mm pistol as a prize from the Union Home Ministry.
Previously, Singh served in several top positions in Varanasi, Chitrakoot, Gonda, Farrukhabad, Baghpat and Bulandshahr.
She has often been in the limelight for her campaigns against the mafia and organised crime.
Impressed with her work, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had given Singh the responsibility of capital Lucknow in 2019.
She was awarded the Police Medal in 2016, and UP DGP’s silver and gold medals in 2021 and 2021. Last year, she also received the UP Chief Minister’s excellence in service medal.
Earlier in her career, Singh served as the IG/DIG of the Special Task Force (STF). After this job, she was promoted to IG of the police training school in Meerut and held the post from March 2018 to May 2020.
She started her career as senior superintendent of police in 2004 after completing a B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering. Notably, Rajeshwar Singh IS also the first woman IPS topper in the UPSC exam securing 33rd rank.
Over the years, she has been honoured with many awards & recognitions. She received the Police Medal in 2016, UP DGP’s silver and gold medals in 2020 and 2021. She was also bestowed with UP chief minister’s excellence in service medal.
She is the wife of former IPS officer Rajeshwar Singh who was known for his cutting edge investigation in Enforcement Directorate in Subroto Roy Sahara scam case. Rajeshwar Singh later took a VRS and joined the BJP and is a MLA from Sarojini Nagar seat of Lucknow.
Her arrival at the Chief of Noida Police will further bolster the aim of SMART and better policing in Noida that was started by first CP of Noida, Alok Singh after new a commsionarate of Noida was carved out in 2021.
