NRI from Canada who arrive to pay homage at Anandpur Sahib killed in a brawl outside the holy site

An NRI from Canada who arrived in Punjab to celebrate Hola Mohalla and went to Anandpur Sahib was killed after he objected to some men playing loud music .

The victim was identified as Pardeep Singh (27) who was a permanent resident of Canada. 

The police stated that his objection for loud music led to a brawl near the entrance of Anandpur Sahib on March 7. Pardeep had come from Canada to pay obeisance at Anandpur Sahib in Ropar. 

The police so far have identified the other man involved in the brawl as one Satbir Singh, who is admitted in PGI, Chandigarh. A police team has been stationed at the hospital to arrest Satbir after he is discharged.

Pardeep came from a family of Army personnel, with his father, Gurbaksh Singh, an honorary captain in the Indian Army, due to retire in May this year. Gurdial himself retired as a havaldar from the Indian Army recently.

The Ropar police have formed special teams to arrest all the accused involved in the case.

The family of the victim members of the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) and demanded ‘Shaheed’ (martyr) status for the man. The family also demanded the arrest of the culprits involved in the incident at the earliest.
