Mumbai police book a BSNL employee for cheating over his fake caste certificate
Mangesh Srikoli who works as a sub-divisional engineer in the company’s Mumbai electricity department had submitted a certificate stating that he is a SC candidate
The Mumbai Police booked a Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) employee for allegedly submitting bogus caste certificate and procuring a job under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes quota.
The BSNL employee was identified as Mangesh Srikoli who works as a sub-divisional engineer in the company’s Mumbai electricity department. The matter came to the fore after the BSNL conducted an internal inquiry on Srikoli and informed the police.
The police said that Srikoli had submitted fake caste certificate.
According to the police, Srikoli was recruited in 1994 as a junior engineer. He had mentioned that he belongs to the SC category and also attached his caste certificate.
A politician, who was then as a serving MLA, filed a complaint with the department in 2017.
Following the politician’s complaint when the BSNL officials sent the certificate to the caste verification office in Thane for verification. Following this, the caste verification office reported that Srikoli had submitted a bogus certificate.
The inquiry committee was set up that filed a report with BSNL authorities and the DGM of BSNL filed a complaint with police station.
The police have registered a case of cheating and forgery. The officials added that there are investigating the case and no arrests have been made so far.
