Mumbai businessman falls prey to phishing attack, loses over Rs. four lakhs

New Delhi, January 10

A Mumbai based businessman was allegedly duped by a cyber-fraudster who impersonated a bank and phished him of Rs 4.20 lakhs.

The 49-year-old complainant runs dairy business in Mumbai. 

The police stated that he received a text message which he thought was sent by the relationship manager of Citibank diners club, offering him an international credit card.

The police added that it was a phishing link on which the complainant was asked to fill in his personal details. The complainant clicked on the link, filled his banking details. 

However, within a few minutes he got alerts on his phone that Rs. 4.20 lakhs have been debited from his account. He immediately called the bank to block his account and filed a complaint with Khar police station.
