The Karnataka Police has suspended the Circle Inspector of Nargund station in Gadag district in the murder case of a teen boy where hate speeches and violence erupted between two communities in January.

The victim Sameer Shahpura (19) was beaten to death while Shamsher Pathan managed to survive.

North Western Range Inspector General of Police N Satish Kumar issued the suspension order to Nandishwar Kumbar on grounds of dereliction of duty in handling the case properly

Kumbar allegedly failed to take stock of the situation and maintain law and order which led to the murder of a 19-year-old on January 17.

The police have also arrested Bajrang Dal leader Sanju Nalvade, Mallikarjun alias Gundya, Muttapa hiremath, Chanabasappa, Chndrashekhar Akki, Sakrappa Hanumanthappa Kakanur from Nargund.

As per the case details, a group of seven to eight people including the Bajrang Dal leader allegedly chased and stabbed hotel worker Sameer Shahpura. Sameer was returning home after work with his friend Shamsher Pathan when they were attacked. A few days before the incident, the accused had also organised a rally at which calls were allegedly made for violence against Muslims. The police had then registered a case for breaking Covid protocols.

Bajrang Dal leader Sanju Nalvade led group of members had allegedly resorted to hate speeches against Muslims calling them “terrorists” and announced that “we will not spare them” on January 17.

Nalvade had even dared the Circle Inspector to arrest him for his speech. The attack on the youth took place on the same of the speech.

The activists in the district have called out on police stating that the police has been keeping a blind eye to incidents of violence against Muslim where young Muslims boys were being targeted allegedly by Hindutva forces. Two school boys were killed similarly in the same district last month.
