Hijaab Order Protests- Student bodies took out protests in Delhi, five held

The protests were held against the ongoing Karbataka row over Muslim women wearing Hijaab in varsities

The students took out a protests in New Delhi in connection against the hijab curbs in Karnataka. The Delhi Police have registered five cases in connection with the protests over a march held at Delhi University. 

The police said that a group of 25 protestors of Bhagat Singh Chaatra Ekta Manch/SIO and other student organisations came to the barricades outside gate number 3 of Delhi University at Chhatra Marg. They started shouting slogans. 

The Muslim Students' Federation protested outside the Arts Faculty in DU North Campus. The gathering comprised 50 students, including women, who were wearing hijabs.The protestors carried banners ''We, the people of Muhammad, will fight hate'' and "In solidarity with the students of Karnataka'', they raised their voice against the row which has erupted in the southern state.

The police stated that the protestors were however removed from the premises as they did not have permission to hold protests. 

The student body claimed that they were holding peaceful protests but the police detained them. 

In another protest regarding an issue at Chanakyapuri, Left student activists along with members of the All Lawyers’ Association for Justice (AILAJ) were detained near Karnataka Bhavan before they could start their protest. The activists of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and the Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS) had called for a protest on the issue at Chanakyapuri.

Heavy deployment of Delhi Police and CRPF was seen outside bhavans and adjoining areas. As protesters started gathering near Assam Bhavan, they were picked up and put into buses and taken to Mandir Marg police station for detention.

The New Delhi district police had issued prohibitory orders. However, some protestors assembled at Kautilya Marg. Three people were detained during a protest at Shaheen Bagh later. 

The police had beefed up security at all the Bhavans following the incident at Chanakyapuri with presence of CRPF and other para military forces. 

The arrested protestors near DU have been booked under Section 188 of the IPC.
