Ghaziabad police busted a gang that bought new born babies from poor parents and sold babies to childless couples. 11persons have been arrested.
While most of the accused are locals, other identified as Delhi based couple Asmit Kaur and Gurmeet, Lucknow based person Alok Agnihotri. Asmit and Gurmeet are kingpins of the racket.
The police received a complaint at Loni police station on May 12 by a couple Fatima and Fariyad of Dabur Talab who said that their 15-day-old child was abducted from their house by a man an woman who visited their house in the pretext of renting their house.
However, when police investigated they found that the child was not abducted rather sold by the couple to the gang that did not pay them back for the amount decided.
According to police Asmit and Gurmeet were running the baby selling racket through associate Wahid who used to spot poor and vulnerable couples, convince them to have a baby and later sold those babies.
Asmeet and Gurmnet attracted customers through Sulekha and charged over Rs. Five lakhs from childless couples to get a baby.
In this case, Wahid had agreed to pat Fatima and Fariyad, Rs. two lakhs for their baby however didn't pay the sum and the duo ended up exposing the racket. Wahid allegedly took the baby and went to Delhi to Asmeet and Gurmeet who boarded a flight to give the child to Agnihotri in Lucknow. Agnihotri had promised Rs. five and half lakhs to Asmeet and Gurmeet to get a child for his sister.
The police had formed three teams that raided places in Delhi and UP to bust the network. Eleven have been arrested including eight women after Wahid spilled the beans. Three of the accused are still on the run, said police.
The police are further investigating the case to trace the network.
