The Delhi Police has rejected permission to stand up comedian, Munawar Faruqui's show in Delhi.

Munawar was going to hold a stand up comedy show in Delhi scheduled for August 28 on Sunday.

According to the police, on August 23, the licensing branch had given permission to the applicant, Gursimar Singh Rayat, a resident of Vishnu Garden in West Delhi, to organise a comedy show featuring Faruqui at Dr SPM Civic Centre, Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium, on August 28, from 2 pm to 9.30 pm.

On August 25, VHP Delhi president Surendra Kumar Gupta sent a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora that Faruqui “mocks Hindu gods in his shows”. He also filed a complaint at Kamla Market police station requesting cancellation of the show.

Following the complaint, the Central district conducted an enquiry and submitted their report to the licensing branch in which they informed them that the show will affect communal harmony in the area and they should cancel permission.

Gupta also alleged in his complaint that Faruqui was responsible for the Bhgaynagar clashes in Hyderabad which erupted after his show mocking Hindu Gods.

The cancellation of his show in Delhi comes days after suspension of Telangana MP T Raja from BJP and his arrest by Hyderabad Police for his remarks on Prophet Mohammed. Raja had claimed that his video was in response to a show held by Faruqui in Hyderabad.

Faruqui has served a month in jail last year on charges of hurting religious sentiments during a show in Indore.
