The Delhi Police has lodged an FIR against six social media accounts for allegedly posting lewd comments about the daughters of cricketers Virat Kohli and M S Dhoni on Twitter.
The FIR has been registered by IFSO (Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations).
The FIR read: “Based on the comments of the complaint and enquiry conducted so far, a prima facie offence under section 67B(d) (punishment for publishing and transmitting of material depicting children in sexually explicit act, etc., in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act is made out.”
The FIR comes after the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) took suo motu cognisance of the matter and identified at least six social media accounts, which were making obscene comments on the platform against the cricketers’ two and seven-year-old daughters respectively.
The IFSO has also asked Twitter to suspend their accounts and provide further information pertaining to those. They are supposed to respond within 72 hours, following which we will take further legal action. The IFSO has also sought suspension of the account that had tweeted objectionable tweets on the daughters of cricketers.
The DCW had issued a notice to the police to lodge an FIR over the matter.
