One of the accused is a former employee of the businessman identified as Anand who worked as a driver for him. His aide identified as Ajay made extortion calls to the businessman.
The police used technical surveillance and monitored the calls of the caller and traced the location. A trap was laid where the businessman was asked to bring the sum and hand over the same to the accused at Rithala Chowk.
The police under the guise of the complainant’s driver reached the spot, but the accused kept changing the location. The policeman acting as a driver drove alongwith the businessman to all the spots and finally nabbed the accused.
The police had also put the employees working for the complainant under radar. The extortion calls to the businessman were repeatedly heard and analyzed when the investigators found that the words used by the caller while making the calls revealed a familiar pattern, which led the team to zero in on an ex-employee who had left the job a year ago.
DCP (Outer), Harendra Singh stated that the former employee had hatched the criminal conspiracy to extort cash of Rs 1 crore from the complainant by posing as a member of Neeraj Bawania gang so the victim would get scared and succumb to the threats.
