The Delhi Police arrested a man for allegedly vandalising a police post and setting ablaze his motorcycle in the upscale Khan Market area.
The police received a call at around 7.30 am about the vandalism at the police post and the burning of a motorcycle. The police reached the spot and found the accused behaving aggressively.
The accused was identified as Nadeem, a resident of Hauz Rani, who was reportedly found under the influence of alcohol.
The purported videos of the incident were seen circulating on social media show a man wearing black clothes and a cap breaking the glasses of the police post with bricks while a motorcycle is burning at the front. Another video shows two police personnel holding him.
He damaged the mirrors of the police post and burnt his motorcycle and some banners of Delhi Police, officials said.
According to the police, Nadeem came to the market the previous day to collect food from one of the restaurants there. While he was waiting to receive the package, a couple passed by. The woman accused him of staring at her and complained at the police outpost there.
One of the policemen on duty slapped Nadeem. He returned the next day and set his two-wheeler on fire and vandalized the police station. He also tried to set the police post ablaze.
The officials stated that Nadeem was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, the police said, adding that he had some personal issues and also seemed to have some grudge against the police.
