Delhi Police arrests an architect, businessman in hit and run accident that killed an elderly man in Defence Colony
The duo with their high speeding car hit the elderly man identified as Baldev Singh, who died on the spot and the accused fled from the spot after the accident
The Delhi Police arrested an architect and a businessman for allegedly running over an elderly man with their vehicle in Defence Colony area of Delhi.
The police identified the accused as Garvit Singhal (28) and Raunak Jain (28). The duo were returning home from popular food joint Moolchand Parantha early in the morning. While Singhal is an architect and also runs a departmental store in the area, Jain is a businessman and has a shop in Sadar Bazaar.
The duo with their high speeding car hit the elderly man identified as Baldev Singh, who died on the spot. Both the accused fled from the spot after the accident.
According to the police, the victim was out for a walk and then take a bus to Kashmere Gate to meet his friends. He laid dead on the road for an hour in the rain, till locals spotted him and alerted the police.
He was shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The police teams traced the accused through CCTV footage however due to lesser clarity couldn’t identify the registration number. The footage then tracked the route of the car and identified the owner. The CCTV mapping led the team to the Model Town.
The officials said that after several checks and raids, the car, a Skoda, was found at a residence and the accused were arrested. The accused had sent the car was repair that was found with dents and headlights broken.
The police have booked the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
