The Delhi Police has arrested  Assistant Professor of a Delhi-based university for allegedly impersonating the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) and making several calls on his behalf to the university’s Vice Chancellor to seek favours from him.

The Delhi Police team arrested him from the IGI Airport upon his arrival. The police had also issued a look out notice against him.

The police identified the accused as Rohit Singh, Assistant Professor at GGSIP University, who made calls on behalf of the L-G on September last year.

As per the case details, Singh called the Vice Chancellor of the university twice over the landline phone impersonating as the L-G. In the first instance, he got his leave sanctioned. In the second instance, on September 30 last year, he called the VC by impersonating as the L-G to get his sister selected as faculty in the English Department of GGSIPU.

The investigators traced Singh through the number he had used to make calls. The calls received at the Vice Chancellor's office were analyzed and police found a number from UK. The number was further probed to see where it was used and who was in contact with the same; when the police found two numbers; one belonging to Manvi Singh (for whom the calls were made as L-G) and another of her father Rajpal Singh.

The father daughter duo were called for questioning and after a thorough questioning they confessed that the UK-based number belonged to the Singh, who had gone abroad for further studies on September 27 last year.
