Delhi Police arrested Dubai engineer for making hoax 'hijack' social media post

The engineer was on Dubai bound flight that got diverted due to bad weather and upset with the same, the main tweeted that the flight was hijacked tagging Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

The Delhi Police arrested a Dubai-based engineer for allegedly posting a tweet saying his flight from Dubai to Jaipur was “hijacked”.

The police identified him as Moti Singh Rathore. Rathore allegedly made a hoax call as he was upset with airline staff over the flight being diverted and also fought with them.

According to police, Rathore was on a flight from Dubai to Jaipur, which was diverted to Delhi due to bad weather. The flight landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport around 9.45 am. 

Rathore posted a tweet saying the flight was hijacked and tagged Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, added police. 

The police and airport security rushed to the spot and evacuated all passengers. The plane was checked and after clearance, it departed at 1.40 pm.

DCP (IGI Airport) Ravi Kumar Singh stated that after finding out it was a hoax,Rathore was deboarded with his bags and the staff handed him over to police. The airlines also reported his unruly behvaiour.

The police have booked him under IPC sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 505 (1) (b) (act with intent to cause fear/alarm), and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication).
