Delhi Police arrest two for giving threats kn attacking JNU on I Day

Delhi Police arrest two for giving threats kn attacking Jawaharlal Lal Nehru (JNU) University on the Independence Day. The accused had created a video allegedly giving threats.

The accused was identified as Vikas Sehrawat and Raja Kumar both from Uttamnagar. Vikas Sehrawat has bee. Associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) since 2018, police said.

Sehrawat was recently arrested for making derogatory remarks on Congress leader Alka Lamba. In a video, he had attacked Lamba with foul language and abuses. 

Almost in the same modus operandi, Sehrawat created this video on Kumar's phone and posted it on social media. 

The police said during his previous arrest, he had claimed he is a "member' of VHP however it is yet to be confirmed with the organization on his credentials.

As per the case details, the police had received a complaint from. jNU student that a video was posted on tbe Facebook page of 'Mahakal Youth Brigade' that claims to attack JNU on tbe I Day.

DCP (South West) Ingit Pratap Singh stated that the police were deployed in plain clothes at all the gates of JNU and a strict watch was kept at the varsity on the I Day to ensure no untoward incident takes place. However, noone was found there who allegedly wanted to attack the varsity.

The video appeared to be a false alarm however the student body filed a complaint with police.

The police have booked the accused under sections 153(A), 295 (A), 505 and 506 for promoting enmity between different groups, deliberate and malicious attacks intended to outrage religius feelings, statements conducing to public mischief and punishment for criminal intimidation.
