IAF jawaan held for espionage in Delhi

New Delhi, May 12

The Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested Indian Air Force (IAF) jawan on espionage charges from Delhi. The investigators suspect involvement of ISI behind the incident. 

The official was identified as Devendra Sharma, a native of Kanpur and a jawan in the IAF.

The Delhi Crime Branch suspects he was ‘honey-trapped’ online by a stranger who allegedly collected sensitive information from him.

The police are suspecting involvement of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) behind the incident.

The crime branch had received inputs about his activities based on which he was arrested. He is being interrogated about the details he allegedly shared with the woman. 

According to the police, Sharma, met a woman on Facebook. The woman befriended him and frequently called him, trying to collect information about the IAF. 

The woman allegedly collected information about positions of IAF radars, posting of senior officials and their details. 

The police have sent the number of the mystery woman for investigation and formed teams to trace her. 

The police have also found some suspicious transactions in the bank account of the jawaan’s wife which was re under investigation.
