Dalit farmer beaten to death in Badaun of UP, police arrests accused

The accused had hit the farmer for collection of drinking water from a public tap

New Delhi, December 1

The Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a man who assaulted a young Dalit farmer to death for collection of drinking water from a public tap at Satra village in Badaun district.

The police identified the accuse as Suraj Rathore who alongwith two other men assaulted the victim identified as Kamlesh with sticks. Suraj is neighbour of Kamlesh. 

The police stated that Kamlesh’s daughter went to the public tap in the village to get water.  Suraj, who was also there to collect water at the time, allegedly scolded the girl over some issue. Kamlesh soon reached the spot and was involved in a heated argument with Suraj. The matter was resolved after the intervention of some local residents.

However, later in the day when Kamlesh was returning from a farm, the three accused attacked him with sticks and fled. Lamlesh’s family members who reached the spot took him to a hospital where he died during treatment. 

The police have booked the accused for murder and a search for the other two men is on.
