DGP Haryana writes to the government to move back to IB

The MHA had given an extension of another one year to DGP Manoj Yadava who had finished his two year term as DGP Haryana in February

New Delhi, June 22

Director General of Police (DGP) Haryana, Manoj Yadava wrote to Harayana Home Department, expressing his desire to move to Intelligence Bureau.

Yadava, a 1988-batch IPS officer, was appointed as Haryana's DGP on February 18, 2019. He took charge as DGP on February 21, 2019 for a period of two-year tenure that ended on February 20, 2021.

In a letter dated June 22 to Rajeev Arora, Additional Chief Secretary, Harayana, DGP  Manoj Yadava stated he had joined as DGP Haryana in February 21, 2019 till February 19 this year for a term of two years. He was sent to Haryana as deputation from IB.

The Haryana Government had even extended Yadava's tenure beyond January 20, this year.

Yadava has further stated that he wants to return to IB to resume his duties as Additional Director in IB due to career considerations and family requirements.

He requested further for rejoining the IB.

In last two years, DGP Yadava has been instrumental in formation of special task forces to crack down on gangs in Haryana. The state of Haryana witnessed farmer protests from last year which are still continuing in smaller towns and villages of the state.

DGP Yadava recently faced an opposition from his junior officer who accused him of caste discrimination and harassment. IPS officer Puran Kumar had written to SSP Hamid Ansari to file a FIR against DGP Manoj Yadava under the SC ST Act.

The officer in his complaint had alleged that he had visited a temple on August 3, 2020, situated inside the premises of Traffic police station Sahazadpur in Ambala. The same day, the then Ambala SP Abhishek Jorwal also visited the temple. On August 17, the DGP in a semi-official letter asked Kumar to inform whether any prior sanction of the government was obtained before setting up the place of worship in the police station. But, Abhishek Jorwal was not asked about it.

Haryana State Home Minister Anil Vij had written a scathing letter to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajeev Arora asking him to initiate the process of sending a panel of senior IPS officers to MHA for replacing Yadava who had completed his two-year tenure on February 20.

However, CM Manohar Lal Khattar, in an interaction with the media had come out in Yadava’s support and said that the state police chief will continue.

The MHA's extension letter stated, “The undersigned is further directed to convey the approval of the competent authority for extension of tenure of Shri Manoj Yadava, IPS (HY: 88), Additional Director, IB in his cadre for a period of one year beyond February 20, 2021 or till further orders whichever is earlier under the provision of para 6.6 of IPS Tenure Policy.”
