The UP Police arrested a history-sheeter from Bareilly for allegedly trying to extort Rs 10 lakh from Hapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Verma by calling on his official phone numbers last month.
The accused identified as Rohit Saxena, also allegedly threatened that the SP and his family would be killed if he did not pay up.
The police stated that Saxena has eight cases registered against him at Bareilly’s Izatnagar police station, apart from several cases in police stations at Rampur and Moradabad districts in UP and also in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
Devendra Bisht, public relations officer of the Hapur SP lodged an FIR in this regard.
Asper the case details, Hapur SP Abhishek Verma was posted as Deputy SP in Bareilly last year and had arrested Rohit Saxena there in connection with a pending case.
The police stated further that Saxena made multiple calls on the official phone numbers of the SP, hurled casteist abuses at the SP as he tried to extort him and also made death threats.
