CBI files a graft case against LS MP Karti Chidambaram for facilitating VISAs of Chinese nationals

The CBI also carried out search operations at nine locations in multiple cities including Karti Chidambaram’s residences in Chennai and Delhi

New Delhi, May 17

The CBI has filed a graft case against Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram, son of former finance minister P Chidambaram, for allegedly facilitating visas of 250 Chinese nationals after receiving illegal gratification of Rs 50 lakhs.

The CBI also carried out search operations at nine locations in multiple places including Karti Chidambaram’s residences in Chennai and Delhi. The team also visited Congress leader P Chidambaram's residence at Lodhi Estate 

The CBI has been investigating INX media  case in which Karti is under probe in getting Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance for INX media.

During the investigation, the CBI had detected the payments worth Rs 50 lakh which are alleged to be illegal gratification for facilitating the visa of Chinese workers who were supposed to work at the plant.

The officials added that more searches would be conducted in connection with the case.
