CBI arrests Recovery Officer of Debt Recovery Tribunal in Chandigarh for bribery, collects cash and other documents from his residences

The Recovery Officer (RO), Sunil Kumar Tiwari posted at Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) office in Sector 17 of Chandigarh, was arrested on April 21 for accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 from a Kaithal resident.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that arrested Recovery Officer (RO), Sunil Kumar Tiwari for bribery, recovered around Rs 6 lakhs of cash and some property documents from the Chandigarh and Lucknow residences. 

Two teams of CBI rushed to Chandigarh and Lucknow residences of Tiwari to collect more evidences. Tiwari is a native of Lucknow in UP. 

The Recovery Officer (RO), Sunil Kumar Tiwari posted at Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) office in Sector 17 of Chandigarh, was arrested on April 21 for accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000 from a Kaithal resident.

The CBI also seized property papers and other incriminating documents from the residences of Tiwari during a search.

As per the complaint of the Kaithal resident, he had submitted a bid in an auction for purchasing a plant and machinery. He was reportedly the highest bidder in the auction and had deposited the total amount within stipulated time.

It was further alleged that the complainant submitted an affidavit in DRT office in Sector 17 mentioning that some plant and machinery were missing and requested that either all remaining machinery be provided to him or he get an amount equivalent to the missing machinery returned/refunded to him.

Sunil Kumar Tiwari had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant for settling his matter. After a negotiation, the bribe amount was brought down to Rs 70,000. Tiwari was arrested red handed accepting the bribe amount.
