CBI arrests ASI and HC of Chandigarh Police for bribery

The duo had allegedly demanded Rs. 50000 from the complainant stating that the latter was accused of rape charges and if the bribe amount is not paid, they will implicate him further

New Delhi, March 22

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a head constable (HC) of the Chandigarh police for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50000 from a man for not lodging a case of rape against him. 

The accused policemen have been identified as ASI Randeep Singh and HC Ravinder Singh Rana. Rana was posted at the Sector 11 police station and Singh at the Sector 24 police post. 

The two were arrested under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988, and Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 

Ranjeet Singh alleged in his complaint the two policemen told him they had received a complaint of rape against him and that he was being threatened that he will be implicated in the case if he doesn’t pay up. The CBI laid a trap and arrested the policemen. 

Rana's family on the other hand claimed, that he was assaulted by CBI officers.
