CBI arrested two Mumbai IT inspectors for allegedly accepting bribe of Rs. 15 lakhs

One of the accused tried to run away when the CBI officers reached to arrest him

New Delhi, April 15

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two Inspectors working at  Investigation Unit of Income Tax Department in Mumbai for accepting bribe of Rs.15 Lakh from the complainant.

The CBI has registered a case against three Inspectors, all working at Investigation Unit-1, Income Tax Department, Ballard Pier, Mumbai on the allegations that the accused  demanded undue advantage of Rs. 15 Lakh for helping the complainant in the investigation being conducted by the Income Tax Authorities.

The CBI officials stated that a trap was laid leading to the arrest of two Inspectors of IT while accepting the bribe of Rs.10 lakhs and Rs. five lakhs respectively from the complainant. The CBI nabbed one of the said accused while he tired to run away at the time of his apprehension.  

The agency conducted searches at two places in Mumbai and one place in Delhi at the residential and office premises of accused. This led to recovery of cash of Rs. seven lakhs and incriminating documents relating to investment in commercial & residential properties from one of the accused.

Both the accused were produced in the Special Court for CBI Cases, Mumbai.
