CBI arrested a senior passport official from Jammu for alleged bribery

The accused had demanded a bribe for issuance of passport of the complainant: CBI

New Delhi, April 15

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Senior Passport Assistant, Regional Passport Office, Jammu for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.4,000/- from the complainant.

The CBI states that a case was registered on a complaint alleging that the Senior Passport Assistant, Regional Passport Office, Jammu has demanded a bribe for issuance of passport of the complainant.  It was alleged that the complainant had applied for issuance of Passport in the month of January, 2020 and contacted the Regional Passport Office, Jammu. 

The officials added that it was further alleged that the complainant was informed that an FIR has been registered against him and due to this, issuance of passport was pending.  The complainant further informed that he has been acquitted in the said FIR.  Thereafter, the complainant visited Passport Office, Jammu and met the Senior Passport Assistant.  The accused allegedly demanded bribe of Rs.5000/- for issuing passport and agreed to accept Rs.4000/- after negotiation.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding & accepting bribe of Rs.4,000/-.  The agency also conducted searches at the residential premises of the accused at  Jammu & Lucknow.
