A man who attempted to die by suicide took pills and later torched his house that left his old mother dead.
The police stated that they received emergency call from West Delhi’s Mansarovar Garden area where police teams and fire services rushed to the spot.
The women was identified as Mahendar Kaur (78) who was found lying charred on one side of the main door. Her deceased woman’s son, Surender Pal (45), also sustained injuries in the incident and is undergoing treatment.
The primary probe shows that Pal was upset due to the condition of his ailing parents his father was hospitalised while mother bed-ridden at home and had started the fire with the intention to end lives of all including his.
The decades had two other sons who live abroad and she earlier lived with the. Pal had also worked with his brother in London but had come back to Delhi a few years ago. He owns a paint company in Delhi.
The police said that Pal allegedly took sleeping pills and set his house on fire. He had planned to end his life and reached the terrace where he collapsed. He has been referred to RML hospital for treatment.
The police further said that two burners on the gas stove in the kitchen were on. On the other side, two rooms were gutted in the fire. There were also a few burnt cardboard pieces near the gas stove and in Kaur’s bedroom. One piece of cardboard was also found on the roof near Pal.
It is suspected that Pal intentionally burnt the cardboard pieces and set up the fire near his mother’s room to kill her and himself, said the police, added police.
The Police have registered a case of murder and mischief by fire with intent to destroy a house.
