BTech student dies by suicide in IIT Delhi hostel

Kumar, who was pursuing BTech in Mathematics and Computing (session 2019-2023) but didn't clear a few subjects

New Delhi, September 2

A 21-year-old BTech student died by suicide inside his hostel at IIT-Delhi. 

The police received a call at around 6 pm by a student at Vidyanchal Hostel. 

The deceased was identified as Anil Kumar, who was pursuing BTech in Mathematics and Computing (session 2019-2023).

The police stated that the door was closed from the inside and the fire department had to break it down. He was found hanging in his room. 

The police found out that Police he had not cleared a few subjects, he was residing in the hostel on a six-month extension.

The police carried out the process in presence of Dean of students/CMO IIT, Chief Security Officer, crime team, forensic teams were also present at the time. 

The police stated that there is no foul play. The police have begun inquest proceedings and informed his family.
