14 killed and 20 injured as pick up vehicle overturned in Madhya Pradesh while six killed in Dehradun as car falls in a gorge

Pick up vehicle carrying the victims

New Delhi, February 29

At least 14 people were killed and 20 others injured when a pick-up vehicle overturned and fell into a deep valley in Madhya Pradesh’s Dindori district. 

The police stated that the accident took place near Badjhar Ghat when the vehicle’s driver lost control over the wheels while negotiating a blind turn. 14 people died on the spot while 20 others were injured.

The victims were returning to Amhai Devri from Masurghugri village in the district’s Shahpura block after take part in a programme. 

The injured persons were admitted to the Shahpura Community Health Centre for treatment. Six of them were reported to be in serious condition.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief over the incident and announced an assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased. 

Yadav also directed state cabinet minister Sampatiya Uikey to rush to Dindori for the relief work. Senior Congress leader and former MP CM Kamal Nath also expressed grief over the incident. 

President Darupadi Murmu said on X, “The news of many casualties in a road accident in Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh is extremely painful. I express my condolences to the bereaved family members. I pray that all the people injured in this accident get well soon,” Murmu said in Hindi in a post on X.

In another tragic incdient, six people were killed and one person suffered serious injuries in a road accident in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun after the car they were travelling fell in a deep gorge. 

The police stated that the car fell into a 800meter deep ditch in Dunga area when it suddenly veered off. It was an Alto car going from Tiuni towards Atal. 

The passengers, not yet identified, were reportedly on their way to offer prayers at Chaldaan Maharaj.

The SRF and locals helped in the rescue operation. 

The officials stated that all the bodies were handed over to the district police, while one injured person was taken to the local hospital.
